I thought I’d write a different type of post today. It’s kind of a feel good post because every time I think of this day in my life it makes me smile. Do you believe in karma? What goes around comes around, right?
I believe in Karma. If the good is sown, the good is collected. When positive things are made, that returns well. – Yannick Noah

So I was thinking back to a few years ago when I took a couple of hours off because it was a beautiful day and I wanted to enjoy some fresh air. Most days I take a break from my desk and go for a walk in my local park. I always come back refreshed, motivated, inspired and full of new ideas. That’s the beauty of being my own boss. I can make these decisions at the drop of a hat and know that I just have to work a little longer at the end of the day.
My inspiring person of the day.
On my travels I nipped into one of my local charity shops. Having worked as a Senior Fundraiser for the British Red Cross many years ago I know the importance of these shops and I’m a HUGE supporter. I love nothing more than having a browse trying to find little treasures. This was my lucky day as I discovered quite a few as I wandered around the shop.
I had a rummage through the men’s sweaters before I got to the desk to pay. The gentleman behind the desk said, “we have a great selection of sweaters” to which I replied, “yes, you do and I particularly like the sweater you’re wearing”. It was coral pink and he looked so vibrant and handsome wearing it. He laughed and said at his age he probably shouldn’t be wearing such a “loud” sweater. He looked great and I told him so. I said that I was trying to move my 78 year old Dad gently into wearing more colourful sweaters. He then chirped that he was 86. I couldn’t believe it. He was so engaging and energetic with such a zest for life.
Heading towards good karma.

As no other customers were at the desk we started chatting and he told me that he was loving working as a volunteer but that his main interest was writing children’s books, of which he had written and illustrated 40 with no intention of stopping! In addition, he was writing his memoir which had taken him 10 years and he was only up to age 18! We laughed, and I said he’d have to write a series of volumes which would cover a couple of decades at a time.
He hadn’t published any of his books and explained that he didn’t know how to use a computer. He’d actually handwritten all his books and drawn the illustrations himself too. I asked him if he’d thought about self-publishing to which he replied he didn’t know anything about it. I said to him that I knew about self-publishing because I had done a course on that very subject.
The good karma moment.

I was then able to offer him help and advice on how to progress with the tips and tricks I’d learnt from my course. He was so grateful that I was prepared to give him all this information for free. I thought to myself, well he’s giving his time to the charity shop for free so he’s now being rewarded. What goes around comes around, right?
I’m a great believer in, if you give out you will receive back. If you do something good, something good will come back to you. I make it my mission to help out or offer advice to at least one person every day. Sometimes it takes only a minute, other times the process can take longer, but I get a lot out of doing it and knowing that someone, somewhere has benefited makes it all worthwhile. I hope you enjoy your own good karma experience this week.
To Your Success!
