In today’s How to Effortlessly Attract More Opportunities and More Money post, I’m going to share with you how you can easily become the one in your niche who comes to mind when people are asking for recommendations. Together with how you can be the one who attracts the best clients at the highest fees.

Of course, by positioning yourself as an expert (someone who has a great deal of knowledge in a particular niche), you can start dominating your niche and command top dollar for your services.

Becoming an expert in your niche (no matter what it is) has never been more important. The reason why is one word – NOISE.

Here’s what I mean…

The marketplace has never been so noisy because every day more and more people are competing for attention for their products and services. And your customer has just one question on their mind. Why should I listen to you? Or why should I believe you? Expert status will raise you above that noise.

Here’s 11 key points to consider:

1. Becoming an Expert

Whether you’re regarded as an expert depends on what your customers believe about you. This could be related to your brand, how you present yourself, how long you’ve been in business, the qualifications you’ve got or your service delivery.

Call yourself an expert straight away but be aware of consistency on your website or social media channels.

2. Key Qualities and Attributes

  • Adopt a can-do attitude and become an action taker.
  • Radiate confidence and step out of your comfort zone.
  • Set yourself goals and develop the attitude that you’re going to get things done on a certain day.
  • Be passionate and make sure you’re doing something you love.
  • Maintain a positive mindset. Surround yourself with positive people; spend less time with negative ones.
  • Persevere and don’t give up.
  • Cultivate your people skills. Become a good listener and communicate with your clients and prospects in a friendly manner.
  • Develop an ability to outsource. Don’t feel you have to do it all by yourself.
  • Utilise your marketing and sales skills. Be willing and able to self-promote.
  • Have an inquisitive mind. Always be ready to learn new things and not just from your competitors.

3. Plan

You should have a clearly defined goal of what you’re going to do and by when. However, prepare to be flexible as the steps involved are always going to be moving.

Define your product, service or offering and don’t create too many ideas.

What makes you different from your competitors, for example, what’s your unique selling point? A clearly defined USP and message are very important when aiming to become an expert in your niche.

Be persistent and have the self-belief to carry on what you’re doing. Keep making steady progress and always look to improve.

4. Branding

Branding will set you apart from the competition. It should be consistent and be reflective of your values and level of service.

If a brand is instantly recognisable, and trustworthy, people will feel more comfortable buying. A strong brand name and logo/image will keep you at the forefront of your customers’ minds.

Having a great domain name is also essential to your success in business. Try and get an exact matching domain that’s relevant to the service you’re offering.

What should/could you brand?

If you decide to use outsourcers to help with any design work, use the ones that have the highest rating scores and hours worked.

5. Credibility

There’s lots of ways you can back up your expert status and the more you use the better.

  • Qualifications – this may depend on your niche/industry, for example, education.
  • Years of experience – if you have a decent number of years’ experience within an industry or field, people will be more likely to trust you.
  • Testimonials – absolutely crucial in any business as people buy from people. You can get either written or video, both if possible. If you’re running live events, at the end give an incentive to get video testimonials.
  • Social proof – badges, logos, user counts, website visitors, number of people coached, products sold, etc.
  • Reviews – these will give you more in-depth details from your clients. Consumers are heavily influenced by reviews. (Testimonials are more like a recommendation.)

People are also influenced by the number of Likes a Facebook page has. Facebook is vital as that’s where people are. Make sure you’re regularly updating your posts.

6. Trust Triggers

Anything that causes your customers or leads to take action is a trust trigger. You have to develop these both on your site and also in your presentations, talks and social media.

Here’s some examples:

  • Logos of other trusted brands on your website (“Our partners…”).
  • Being featured in a magazine – “as featured in…” adds credibility.
  • Written and video testimonials from genuine customers. Consider having a dedicated page on your website that shows your most recent reviews/testimonials.
  • Feedback forms on your website for people to download and view – “consistently rated 9 out of 10…”.
  • Awards – you don’t have to win to use them. You could just be nominated or shortlisted.
  • Trustpilot presence and website widget.
  • Google My Business listing.
  • Money-back guarantees – these force you to do a good job and reassure the customer. Make sure they’re “no quibble”.
  • Secure shopping + SSL certificate (Secure Sockets Layer is a protocol which creates a secure connection between a client and the server over which to send information).
  • Effective and efficient communication – always respond to customer enquiries/queries and deliver products as fast as possible.

7. Lead Generators

Lead generation is a system whereby you’re getting people who’re interested in your product or service.

A free tangible product is a great lead and then later on in the funnel you can get them to pay for things. Once someone’s bought from you it’s much easier to sell something else to them providing your initial product or service is really good.

People will rarely buy on their first interaction with you. You need to build a relationship by drip-feeding them some great free stuff, so they’ll eventually come around and buy. This is a method in internet marketing where you’re trying to get people into your funnel: name & email.

Give them enough info so that they can do things themselves and see that it works, but where they’re going to get to a point where they actually need your help.

Here’s a couple of examples of Lead Generators:

A book can position you as an expert/authority on your subject matter.

A webinar allows you to reach and connect with a wider audience and is an alternative method to running a live attended training course.

8. Featured Expert

Becoming a featured expert will increase your exposure and reinforce your credibility.

Examples of how to attain this status:

  • Guest blogging by creating a unique article for your niche and offering it to other high-traffic websites. This will also allow you to piggy-back on someone else’s high authority, boosting your social presence and giving you a backlink which can be good for SEO.
  • Pitch a blog post to the Huffington Post. This is an extremely prominent news website that’s always on the lookout for creative articles that are newsworthy, relevant, and current.
  • Pay to get featured. Some newspapers and magazines allow this, and you can then use their logo on your site.
  • Association. If there’s someone in your industry you can get associated with in some way, e.g. get your photo taken with, then this will really help.

9. Sales Funnel

A “funnel” is a highly effective marketing strategy whereby you are constantly generating new leads into your business. Once you have the leads, you then have the task of converting them into paying customers.

The ideal funnel consists of the following:

  • Awareness – You need a social media presence with regular posts, email campaigns, free offers or paid-for marketing.
  • Engagement – Answer questions for free to a certain point before inviting people to your event.
  • Discovery – Build trust and connections via webinars, online training courses, referrals, affiliates, events, and seminars.
  • Purchase – Acquiring customers/clients.
  • Retention – Keeping customers/clients. Offer them additional services or products and referral fees for recommendations.

10. Price-setting

Market research and testing are crucial when pricing your product or service.

Pay attention to perceived value: too cheap and expectations go down; charge more and expectations go up.

Consider charging more and working with fewer people, for example, coaching.

Split test your prices – set up 2 web pages with the same content but different prices and see which one converts better.

Also offers upsells on your program. Once people are ready to part with their money, they’re ready to spend even more.

Always offer a solid guarantee. If your product is that good have confidence in it as a strong “unconditional” guarantee will help increase sales. (When you use guarantees on your website, place them near the BUY or JOIN NOW button.)

11. Staying at the Top

Once you get to where you want to be you’ve got to maintain it. It’s often harder to keep it than it is to get there. Focus on looking after that status.

Things are going to change as you move along your entrepreneurial journey so be willing to invest and reinvest in your business and yourself. It’s easy to get left behind in this digital age.

Nurture a desire to continually learn and improve.

I hope my How to Effortlessly Attract More Opportunities and More Money post has provided you with some valuable information to help you become an expert in your niche.
