man in a suit pushing button which reads increase web traffic

In today’s 5 Ways to Increase Your Traffic post, I’ll be sharing some easy to implement traffic generating strategies. These are long-term strategies to gain good quality traffic over a long period of time. Hopefully you’ve already read my 12 Traffic Hacks Free Guide and tried some of those too.

Before you start driving traffic you need to ensure you know the purpose of your website and make sure it’s set up to achieve this goal. Once people land on your website what actions do you want them to take? What is your goal? Make sure your landing page is optimized for what you want them to do. For example, make a purchase, buy into a service, sign up to a newsletter, claim a free report and so on.

What happens if people leave your website before taking action? What do you do? Do you make an effort to try to build a relationship with people if they’re going to leave? They may leave because it’s not what they’re looking for. Do you make an attempt to get an email address? Most website owners don’t do anything about this and accept the bounce rate. Think about the different ways you can convert a visitor into a prospect or lead.

5 Ways to Increase Your Traffic

1. Reddit Traffic Spike

Reddit is a hugely popular social network but is perhaps more under the radar than Facebook and Twitter. In fact, it’s the 7th most popular social media app in the US. With more than 52 million daily active users and over 100,000 active communities it continues to grow year on year.

Registered community members can submit content including text posts or direct links. Content entries are organised by “areas of interest” called “subreddits”. Users are called Redditors and vote on what content they believe is important. Everybody can create a subreddit and redditors can submit appropriate posts to these communities. Posts with a lot of UpVotes will rise to top of subreddits, whilst content with DownVotes or no UpVotes will get zero traffic and eventually disappear.

Your aim here is to drive traffic to your website or blog. It is not to try to sell because if you go on and try to sell it will get voted DOWN. You want to create engaging, funny and controversial content. You can then utilize a link in your post to go to your blog page or website. Get the formula correct and you’ll get lots of engagement and UpVotes on just one post.

Familiarise yourself with the platform

At the top of the page look at the tabs and search for Popular Reddit topics. See if anything is relevant to your particular niche or that you could tie into it. Also, you can search what’s popular in particular countries.

Use the search facility to find a subreddit, for example GetMotivated. These subreddits and posts will give you an idea as to what’s working. Once you know this for your niche go ahead and create quality, engaging, educational, newsworthy, or funny content. Visuals are important too. Funny works best! Choose either a text or link post and drive people to a page on your blog that will teach them something. Make sure you’ve installed a pop-up on your site to capture leads.

Once you’ve posted make sure you’re active in discussions and answer any questions. Reddit likes this and you’ll receive more UpVotes as a result. When your post takes off it usually happens in the first 48 hours, so keep a close eye on results. Install Google Analytics to monitor traffic from your Reddit linked post. If you have a WordPress site enable comments and make sure you respond and engage.

2. LiveChat

Live chat enables your website visitors to ask questions live via desktop or mobile app. This adds reassurance to them that someone is there and is a non-invasive form of chat.

This is a great way to generate leads, connect with your visitors and build that all important trust. You can request that someone enters their email address before they start chatting. By getting an immediate response people get what they want quickly, and this means that they’re more satisfied than if they’d emailed or phoned you.

You do need to respond to enquiries immediately. However, you can set it so that it shows that no agent is available to chat and then you can invite visitors to leave a message or question.

Installing LiveChat enables you to:

  • Engage with your leads in “live” mode.
  • Increase trust with your website visitors.
  • Rapidly answer people’s questions.
  • Show your customers that you’re “real”.
  • Provide a means for people to contact you when you’re not available.

3. Website Pop-Ups

No-one wants to be faced with an annoying pop-up when they land on a webpage. However, smart, and simple pop-ups are great for generating leads and building relationships where you can offer discount codes. When using a pop-up on your website you must make sure it works on both desktop and mobile.

If the goal you’re trying to achieve on your website is to sell something and the majority of your visitors leave without taking action, then you can implement a pop-up to try lead them into your funnel to build their trust.

The optimum time to present a pop-up to your visitor is when they’re leaving your website. They’ve finished browsing and you’re not losing the time someone’s spending on your site which can hurt your SEO. What many people absolutely detest is when a pop-up comes up as soon as they’ve landed on the page giving them no time to look around. The automatic response to this is that they close down the site and they’re definitely not going to hand over their email address.

If you have an eCommerce site you can activate the pop-up when your visitor starts browsing around your products. For example, the pop-up could offer them a special discount code.

Important things to remember when using pop-ups:

  • If you want your website to rank on Google for organic traffic, only enable your pop-up to appear when visitors exit your page.
  • You can set your pop-up to appear as soon as someone lands on your page but that will effect the length of time they stay on your site and can harm your SEO rankings.
  • If the purpose of your website is solely for lead-generation then set your pop-up to appear as soon as you like!

If your site is WordPress, then use the Pippity plugin. This flexible little plugin allows you to create pop-ups to invite visitors to sign up for your newsletter. It’s low cost but you’ll need to integrate it with an autoresponder such as AWeber. If you’re unable to do this yourself a developer could do this for you easily.

4. “AUTOMATED” Free Webinars

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve probably attended at least one webinar! Webinars are so popular these days that many individuals and businesses, in any niche, are using them as an opportunity to reach a massive global audience.

On live webinars you can really connect with your audience, answering people’s questions and interacting with them. This builds trust so that when the upsell comes people are more likely to take action and buy. This is obviously hard to do on an automated webinar, but you can do it.

Benefits of automated webinars:

  • The best way to generate leads and traffic.
  • Your webinar is evergreen, so you only have to record it once.
  • The optin is high. However, if you have 100 people sign up only around 30 will show up to the actual webinar. But don’t despair, you have people’s details when they registered so you can contact them again to invite them to the recorded version.
  • Conversion rate (Upsell) at the end is high.
  • Allows you to practice recording your webinar until you’re satisfied with the result.
  • You can schedule your automated webinar to run based on specific time zones. Run it 3 times a day, every day.

Things to consider:

  • You’ll need to use a webinar platform capable of automating webinars.
  • Remember not to mention a time or date when delivering your content.
  • Make sure you upsell at the end of your webinar.
  • Absolutely essential that you hook your audience in at the beginning. Tell them you’ll be “offering them a special deal”, course or program at the end. This ensures they stick around.
  • Your Upsell must be a special offer with a discount or payment terms. Also try to add scarcity which will encourage people to invest. It’s crucial to reverse the risk for people. You want to make it easy for them to commit.
  • Make sure you take questions at the end of the webinar. If you’re running it live in the first instance invite questions from your attendees. Thank people for leaving questions, say that due to the sheer number you might not be able to answer them all. However, promise to get back to everyone who left a question. If it’s a pre-recorded version, make up 10 questions that you think your audience would want to ask and provide the answers. Once you’ve finished answering all the questions, tell your audience about the Upsell, include scarcity, e.g., limited spaces available.

When it comes to recording the video for your webinar either film it face-to-face on camera or create a PowerPoint presentation. Once you’ve recorded it and are happy with the result, upload it to Amazon S3 in MP4 format (free cloud storage facility) or YouTube.

The best times to run a webinar are at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm but you may want to test out various time slots to see which ones work best for your audience.
