enthusiastic group of people with their arms in the air having learnt how to grow their list with content curation and repurposing

The harsh truth is that without a list you’re going to struggle to make money online. In today’s How to Grow Your List with Content Curation and Repurposing post, I’m going to share with you some ways in which you can quickly and easily curate and repurpose valuable content.

As I’ve discussed in previous blogs growing your list is an essential part of every business. Cultivating an active list of people, interested and enthusiastic about receiving your information and offers, should be a priority.

Content Curation in a Nutshell

Now, you might be thinking what does content curation actually mean? It essentially means you’re gathering other people’s content on a specific topic and presenting that information in a helpful, relevant way to an interested audience with the purpose of adding value to their lives.

So, for example you might come across an article about your topic that you find helpful and beneficial. You can then share it with your audience. Furthermore, you can add your own thoughts and ideas on why you consider it to be useful, pertinent and of value.

Content Repurposing in a Nutshell

With content repurposing you’re taking already produced content and effectively presenting it in a different format. This content can be that which you’ve created yourself or PLR (Private Label Rights) material. Ensure you have the rights to use the content in this way if someone else is the original creator.

Examples of this include taking the content from a webinar, transcribing it and then producing a report. Or adding the recorded version to a membership site so that members can access it at their own convenience. Similarly, you could drip feed your blog posts into an eCourse or turn them into a podcast.

Benefits

The benefit of both content curation and repurposing is that you’re delivering a substantial amount of value without having to put in more effort and work yourself. This is a smarter way to operate because it means you don’t have to create content from scratch every time you publish to your audience.

You can utilise other people’s content to raise your brand awareness and promote your products and services. At the same time, you can share your ideas and opinions and connect with your audience whilst building their trust.

Grow Your List with Content Curation

Content curation is an effective strategy for list building. This tactic has been employed by newspapers and the wider media for many years. They introduce experts with knowledge and information to their audience. They do this so that their audience doesn’t have to go searching for it themselves. You can easily become the go-to authority in your niche. The person that your audience looks to for the information they want and need.

Here are 3 examples of content curation that work:

1. Round-Up Posts

So, what is a round-up post? Typically, a round-up post is where you compile the answers of experts to a single question in a particular industry or subject. For example, if you work in the travel niche you could create a round-up post titled, 10 Travel Writers Rate the Best Hotels in London. The value here for your readers is that they’re hearing opinions from all these experts in one place. A huge benefit is that there is a high possibility that these experts will share your post with their audiences. This could result in more targeted traffic for you. You’re also making connections and establishing relationships with the experts you contact.

2. Monetized Curation

With monetized curation you’ll have selected and organized, for example, the Top 10 Kitchen Gadgets for 2021. You can link to the product information on each gadget you’ve curated, so that you earn a commission on the products if anyone buys them through your unique affiliate link. This is an extremely profitable way to use someone else’s content.

3. Be Quick off the Mark

When you source content that will appeal to your audience, content that will prove helpful, is interesting, relevant, and informative, share it as fast as you can. Make sure you include it in your most recent publications. Set up Google Alerts so that you’re up to the minute with what’s happening in your niche. Getting the content out quicker than your competition will increase your authority rating. You’ll be regarded as a leader rather than a follower. In addition, your audience will recognize you as the person to listen to for current, important niche information.

Grow Your List with Repurposing

Repurposing content is something that if you haven’t done already you should be doing. You may have already created content, bought content (for example PLR), or have content that you’ve curated that can be delivered in a different way. Repurposing content and presenting it in a new way is a definite means to increase your audience and build your list.

Remember that not everyone processes information in the same way. Some people prefer to read content whilst others would rather listen or watch a video to consume the content. By providing your content in a variety of formats you’ll appeal to a wider audience. People find it easier to digest content in a way that suits them best. They’ll look out for your content in the future if you’re offering them this choice.

You must be aware that not all content is suitable for repurposing. In certain niches content remains “evergreen”, meaning it’s relevant for the long-term. For example, if you were promoting a yoga course, then the course could run for years without you having to make changes. However, if you were running a course on Facebook marketing, then the chances are this would have a short shelf-life as social media platforms change frequently. You want to concentrate on your best performing content. Assemble the content that is receiving the most views, engaging people and getting the most responses, and is the most efficient at converting your prospects.

Let’s look at a few ways you can repurpose your content.

Share Content More

Set up automatic shares via platforms such as Missinglettr.com or HootSuite.com. Make sure your posts contain useful, relevant content as it appears on your website or blog. Change headlines and refer to different points each time you share it.

Include in Your Autoresponder Series

Be aware that when people join your list they may have missed your broadcasts announcing your new blog posts. Utilise your “evergreen” blog posts by adding links to them in your autoresponder sequence emails.

Alter the Format

As I mentioned before an effective way to repurpose content is to change the format. For example, if you’ve compiled an eBook of internet marketing tips and tricks turn that information into a mini eCourse. Think about the various ways you can repurpose content you already have. You can present this new content as a content upgrade. This saves you time and money.

Set up a Continuity Program

Creating a membership site where you add your repurposed content can prove a very lucrative income stream. This gives you the opportunity to get creative with all your content. Think of new ways of presenting it in various formats. Ensure you over-deliver and provide your members with valuable, useful content. You want your members to be eager to receive your content and continue their membership.

      • Me too Ryan. I’m seeing the benefits of doing this not only for myself but also for my target audience. Great idea to turn blog posts into videos and vice-versa. Not everyone processes information in the same way. It’s great to be able to offer folk a variety.
