Hands up if you’ve had a challenging week? The global pandemic has affected us all over the last year in ways we could never have imagined. There is light at the end of the tunnel with the roll out of the vaccine but it’s been a long tunnel.

The current lockdown restrictions have disrupted not only our personal lives, but have also negatively impacted many businesses. The result for me, and probably many of you, has been a rise in more challenging days. Navigating a way through these days can take their toll.

The Bad

Here’s just a snapshot of some of the frustrating situations I’ve encountered recently:

  • X let me down and didn’t deliver what they promised.
  • Discovering a product we’d bought into our business was full of holes and not fit for purpose.
  • Struggling to get a reply from Y about info we desperately need so that we can proceed with a project.
  • Spending time on a project that had to be terminated because it did not live up to our expectations. We’ll only deliver quality!
  • Having to deal with Z who consistently provide poor customer service although their mission statement on their website tells a different story.

And that’s just for starters. Yes, the world of “running your own business” can be difficult, especially in these uncertain times. However, in amongst all this there are consistently good things happening and I always try to focus on those. Keeping positive can be beneficial to us mentally, physically and emotionally.

The Good

So on the flip side here’s a few of the positive situations I encountered this week:

  • Being part of a group of individuals who have encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and do something I never thought I’d ever do.
  • Receiving positive feedback and constructive criticism in a genuine way from people who had taken time out of their day to look at something I’d created.
  • A network of experienced marketers helped and guided me with a new venture I’m working on.
  • Working with an individual who freely shares his ideas for improvements that could be made about a project he’s working on for our company.
  • Finding out about a vital project which is saving lives in the developing world, set up by an inspirational entrepreneur.

I’m being constantly reminded that there is good and bad in every situation. It’s also important to remember it’s what we take from the situation we’re in that truly matters.

So even in these challenging times I’m looking forward to next week with renewed vigour and energy. I wish all of you who’ve struggled this week the same.

So, the good has definitely outweighed the bad for me this week.
