person holding set goals written on post it note

Today I’m going to share 5 tips for taking action to achieve your goals. Goals are something that we can all conjure up but having the ability to reach that goal is not something we all possess. So, what do you need to do to make your goals happen? You need to be proactive, right?

Goals aren’t like dreams or prayers. It’s not just a case of shut your eyes and wish for them to happen, then open your eyes and hey presto… desired result. You must take action.

You also need to master the art of avoiding distraction. Distraction is everywhere and is the greatest enemy of your focus. Sometimes you’ll find you’re distracted by the thoughts and ideas that are going on inside your head or heart and these intrusions can play havoc with your concentration. This is when your motivation needs to kick in.

Goals are like a road you’re travelling down with an end point in sight. Taking action is key to reaching your goal and remaining focused ensures you’re moving in the right direction. Above all keeping motivated provides you with the drive and tenacity to reach your destination and accomplish your goal.

Here’s 5 tips for taking action to achieve your goals.

The first step is always the most challenging, but as Lao Tzu said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. Your mind will do its best to hijack your positive actions. It’ll try to block your path to stop you from taking that first uneasy step towards your goal. Don’t be fooled into thinking you’re a quitter, though. It’s self-preservation coming to the fore. However, you just have to take that leap of faith and go for it. The path will seem less complicated as you move on towards your goal.

Taking action requires you to have faith in yourself – especially when everyone around you is telling you that you can’t do it. Remember that you know yourself better than anyone else and you know what you’re capable of achieving. If you believe that your goal is well within your reach, then it truly is – no matter what others may say.

The practice of achieving one’s goal is endless. By taking action you’re open to stumbling and falling at every turn, but the important thing is to get back on your feet. Don’t worry if you’ve got to start all over again, just make sure that you don’t let your failures halt your progress and prevent you from moving forward. It’s important to keep positive and learn from your mistakes. These experiences will stand you in good stead for the future. Remember too that you’re learning and discovering more about yourself at each stage of the journey.

Existing commitments may be a valid reason for preventing you from taking action, but these commitments are never going to go away. They’re there for life. We can often trick ourselves into believing that we can’t move forward because of A, B or C, but that’s only an excuse. You must be firm with yourself and give yourself a deadline. Sometimes, that is the only way to progress.

That is Latin for ‘seize the day’. Tell yourself that the freedom your goal offers comes but once in a lifetime. If you don’t seize the day – or the moment for that matter – then that chance may be lost. Is this something you’re willing to risk?

It’s easier to keep yourself motivated when you’re able to visualize having achieved your goal. Just close your eyes and try to imagine what the outcome would be if you were to reach your goal. What would the experience feel like? What would the result be afterwards? Make it so realistic that you can actually feel the joy of reaching your dream.

You will reach your goal – you just have to believe in yourself, work hard and keep your eyes on your destination.

I hope my 5 Tips For Taking Action to Achieve Your Goals post has inspired you to take action.

Final thought – The only difference between someone who succeeded and someone who failed is that one of them stopped trying.
