How to Start Your Own Amazon Business in 7 Simple Steps

Go to Amazon Seller Central. You’ll have a choice on using Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) or doing all this yourself. I recommend using FBA as Amazon will then handle all deliveries for you. In addition, it will take care of any customer support issues. Amazon has a fantastic reputation online and buyers will see your products associated with one of the world’s most trusted brands.

Amazon provides all the market research data you’ll need to see whether or not you’ve got a sure-fire winner and also shows you how much you can charge for it. Just look at the “Best Sellers rank” of a particular product in any Top-Level Category. If something is in the top 5,000 then that means it’s selling every day and that’s exactly what you want to be doing.

3. Find a supplier

You’ll never run out of places to get products. You’ve probably even got numerous items lying around your home or attic you could convert into ready cash. However, if you really want to go in for Amazon selling in a big way then you need to start sourcing products elsewhere. Try clearance stores, liquidation auctions, wholesale directories, Alibaba and AliExpress.

4. Get products

Consider shipping costs when determining profitability, especially when using a cheaper, offshore supplier. Also, if it’s something you’ll be selling regularly (as opposed to a one-off clearance lot) watch out for long lead times as you don’t want to run out just as sales are picking up. Low minimum order quantities are best too as you don’t want too much outlay on stock before you start selling.

5. List products

Make sure you use as many high-quality images as possible, as these more than anything else will sell your products. Use Reviews on similar items to tell you what buyers are actually looking for. Take advantage of the auto-populating Search box at the top of each page to give you ideas for “keywords”. These are crucial. You want to have your titles and descriptions full of words and phrases that people are searching for.

Send bulk stock to Amazon warehouses (if using FBA). Amazon will then deal with the customers at every level. Whenever a sale comes in they’ll ship the goods out for you, labelled as “shipped by Amazon“, thus increasing buyer confidence. Your products will also be eligible for Prime and free shipping which helps to attract buyers, thus increasing your sales and profits.

Again, when using FBA, let Amazon take the strain. When a new order comes in, their state-of-the-art system will have the product out of storage, into the proper-sized box, labelled and enroute to your customer in no time at all. There’s no need to worry about missing items or any customer support issues. Amazon will take care of absolutely everything on your behalf, leaving you free to concentrate on growing your business and profits!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my How to Start Your Own Amazon Business in 7 Simple Steps short guide and that it’s shown you how to get started with your own Amazon selling business.
